During the COVID-19 pandemic, India has seen a significant decrease in cases, leading to the reopening of retail spaces. The retail industry is expected to grow substantially, reaching a value of $29,446.2 billion by 2025. However, amidst this growth, physical retail must address the increasing competition from e-commerce and prioritize safety and hygiene to attract and retain customers.

With the rise of e-commerce, customers have become more conscious of safety and hygiene, making indoor air quality (IAQ) a significant concern for physical retail. Enclosed and poorly ventilated spaces can lead to poor IAQ, presenting health risks and increasing the potential for disease transmission, including airborne viruses such as COVID-19.

Due to these concerns, it is essential for retail spaces to have efficient HVAC systems and effective air filtration strategies in place. Regular maintenance of HVAC systems is crucial, but it may not be enough to ensure indoor air quality. This is where Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) technology comes into play as a more proactive solution.
UVGI technology has shown effectiveness in reducing airborne microorganisms in retail spaces, making it a valuable tool in combating the spread of diseases like tuberculosis, smallpox, and influenza.
