ARE YOU CONFUSED ABOUT CHOOSING THE RIGHT COMMERCIAL WATER PURIFIER FOR YOUR BUSINESS? RO OR UV?

Are You Confused About Choosing the Right Commercial Water Purifier for Your Business? RO or UV?

Drinking clean water is crucial for good health. While water is life-giving, the water we consume may be contaminated. We are aware that water supplied by official bodies travels through old and rusty pipelines before reaching us. In areas relying on groundwater, the water may be unfit for direct human consumption due to heavy metals, toxic chemicals, and high TDS (total dissolved solids) levels. It is necessary to purify water properly using the appropriate commercial water purifier for your family or business needs.

Ensuring safe drinking water is not only a basic necessity but also a vital regulation that every employer must follow. The commercial use of water, including drinking and various operational requirements within the establishment, necessitates strict oversight to ensure safety and quality. Water plays an essential role in any commercial setting, and its purity cannot be compromised. Focusing on the well-being of employees is not only a moral obligation but also crucial for a company’s success. The health of staff members is closely tied to productivity and morale. Providing clean, contaminant-free water during work hours demonstrates an employer’s commitment to their health, building trust and positioning the establishment as a responsible entity that values its workforce. This investment in the business’s backbone – its people – is crucial.

Many businesses and multinational companies implement various wellness initiatives for their employees’ health, such as gym facilities, health fairs, and flu shots. However, the primary step every company needs to take is to install a commercial water purifier system on their premises. This can greatly benefit the employees.

According to the ICRIER study, nearly a quarter of companies lose around 14% of their annual working days (more than 51 days per year) due to sickness, leading to a similar drop in productivity and profits, which is concerning. The study indicates that absenteeism is mostly due to acute diseases like diarrhea, influenza, malaria, flu, and the common cold, followed by lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and strokes. During the monsoon months in India, which accounts for 33% of the year, the prevalence of water-borne diseases takes a toll on employees’ health, leading to an increase in absenteeism. Therefore, providing employees with purified water could result in fewer sick days, less paid time off, and improved health and well-being throughout the year.

The most popular types of commercial water purifiers in the market are RO (reverse osmosis) and UV (ultraviolet).

Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Purifier System

Reverse Osmosis is a technology that removes contaminants from feed water by forcing it through a semi-permeable membrane under pressure. Water flows from the more concentrated side (more contaminants) of the RO membrane to the less concentrated side (fewer contaminants) to provide clean drinking water. The resulting freshwater is called permeate, while the concentrated water left over is called waste or rejected.

A semi-permeable membrane has small pores that prevent contaminants from passing through while allowing water molecules to pass. In osmosis, water becomes more concentrated as it passes through the membrane to achieve equilibrium on both sides, but reverse osmosis prevents contaminants from entering the less concentrated side of the membrane. When pressure is applied to saltwater, for example, the salt is left behind and only clean water flows through.

Advantages of Reverse Osmosis

Commercial RO purification technology can remove up to 95% of TDS, making it one of the most effective methods certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for removing dissolved impurities in water that are otherwise impossible to filter using traditional methods. It can also effectively remove harmful heavy metals, enhancing the taste of water in areas with high TDS and hardness levels in groundwater.

Disadvantages of Reverse Osmosis (RO)

Over time, RO membranes can become clogged and coated with microorganisms, leading to biofouling and a decrease in purification effectiveness. Additionally, RO systems waste a significant amount of water, and the reduction of TDS levels can result in water with a bitter taste and a lack of essential minerals.

UV Water Purifier System

Commercial UV water purification systems use ultraviolet rays to kill harmful bacteria in water, making it pathogen-free. By exposing water to UV light, the system renders harmful pathogens inactive without affecting the taste of the water.

UV water purifiers are beneficial for health as they effectively kill all harmful microbes in water without altering its taste.

The commercial UV water purifier uses UV rays to make water-borne pathogens inactive, ensuring safe drinking water for all. The UV light penetrates the cells of bacteria and destroys their ability to reproduce when water passes through the chamber containing the UV light source.
