THE IMPORTANCE OF AIR PURIFICATION IN COLD STORAGE FACILITIES

Cold storage facilities are critical for the storage and distribution of perishable products such as fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, poultry, seafood, flowers, medicines, pharmaceutical products, and electronics. According to the ISHRAE – Indian Cold Chain Industry Outlook 2024 Report, the Indian cold chain market was worth USD 19.6 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach USD 36 Billion by 2024 at a CAGR of 16%.

However, one of the challenges faced by cold storage facilities is indoor air quality. Poor indoor air quality can have a significant impact on the storage of perishable products. It can affect the quality and freshness of the products, lead to moisture-related issues, and result in high energy costs.

1. Quality and Freshness of Products

Contaminated air can lead to the degradation of perishable products, reducing their shelf life and compromising their quality and freshness before reaching customers.

2. Moisture

Imbalanced moisture levels in the air can lead to dehydration or spoilage of perishable products.

3. High Energy Costs

Inefficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can result in higher energy expenditures due to increased workload and lower efficiency.

Air Purification System is the Solution

An effective UVGI air purification system can maintain indoor air quality and prevent spoilage of products in cold storage facilities. UV lamps can be integrated into HVAC systems to remove dust, debris, smoke, airborne contaminants, and other infectious agents, thereby improving indoor air quality.

Industrial air purifiers with Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) technology can significantly enhance heat transfer, indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and the lifespan of HVAC units.

Understanding UVGI Air Disinfection

UVGI uses short wavelength UV-C radiation at 254 nm to kill or inactivate airborne microbes by damaging their DNA and RNA. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UVGI kills viral, bacterial, and fungal organisms.

WHY HAS UVGI BECOME IMPERATIVE IN HVAC INSTALLATIONS POST COVID 19?

What is UVGI Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) is a type of electromagnetic radiation that is used to kill microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, yeast, mold, and fungi. It is a non-chemical technology with no residual by-products. The use of short-wavelength...

HOW UVGI SOLUTIONS CAN HELP IN HOSPITALS

HOW UVGI SOLUTIONS CAN HELP IN HOSPITALS Hospitals are prone to infections and airborne hazards, especially when overcrowded. The air and surfaces can quickly accumulate dirt, dust, viruses, and bacteria. While hospitals continuously sanitize all spaces to maintain a safe...

WHY DOES YOUR RETAIL SPACE NEED UVGI TECHNOLOGY TO PROTECT YOUR CUSTOMERS AND WORKERS FROM AIRBORNE VIRUSES

During the COVID-19 pandemic, India has seen a significant decrease in cases, leading to the reopening of retail spaces. The retail industry is expected to grow substantially, reaching a value of $29,446.2 billion by 2025. However, amidst this growth,...
